Joseph J. Jakubetz age 86 of Canonsburg passed away Thursday April 12, 2012 in Washington Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 23, 1925 in Canonsburg a son of the late Stephan and Anna Duda Jakubetz. Mr. Jakubetz lived in Canonsburg his entire life where he had been a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and the former St. Genevieve Catholic Church. He was a 1943 graduate of Canonsburg High School and had served with the United States Army in Germany from 1947-1950. Prior to his retirement in 1987 he had been employed for 40 years as a manufacturing engineer at the former McGraw Edison and Cooper Power Systems in Canonsburg. He had been a member of the White Eagles Society. During his retirement years Mr. Jakubetz enjoyed golfing and coffee clutch with his many friends and spending time with his family. He was very fond of the family dogs Jasper and Rawley.
This past week Mr. Jakubetz celebrated 48 years of marriage with his wife Jean L. Grandinetta Jakubetz who he married on April 10, 1964. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons Robert McElhaney of Virginia Beach Virginia and Sean McElhaney of Summerville South Carolina, three daughters, Colleen McElhaney of Albuquerque New Mexico, Patricia M. (Timothy P.) Walker of McDonald and Jo (Ron) Jakubetz Dermitt of Canonsburg, four grandchildren; Nathan and Jessica Walker and Tyler and Jessa Dermitt and several nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family. Deceased are five brothers; John, Frank and Steve Jakubetz and Andrew and Michael Vinisky and one sister Anna Taper.
Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Sunday April 15, 2012 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a blessing service will be held at 9:30am Monday April 16, 2012 followed at 10 am by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Church.
