Joseph A. Jacobs age 91 of Houston died at 2:50 AM Friday October 8, 2010 in Donnell House, Washington. He was born September 8, 1919 in Bairdford, Allegheny County, a son of the late Joseph and Caroline Bakos Jacobs.
Mr. Jacobs attended W and J College and served as a Corporal in the United States Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement he had been employed as a Winder at the former Pennsylvania Transformer Company and Cooper Industries. He had also been a meat cutter at the Tiny Store in Canonsburg. A member of St. Patrick church, Mr. Jacobs lived his life in Canonsburg and Houston where he was a member of the American Legion Post 902. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On April 10, 1947 he married Mary (Mimi) Antosh who survives. Also surviving are a son, Ernest R. Jacobs (Sharon) of Bridgeville, two daughters Mary Susan Belis of Bradenton, FL, and Sallie (William) Dunn of Eighty-four, one brother, Edward Jacobs of Gainesville, FL, three sisters; Dorothy Orsag of Aiken, SC, Shirley K. Dowing (Raymond) of Hixon, TN, and Betty Beharry of Bloomington, IL, nine grandchildren; Jennifer (Daniel) Bell, Jonathan (Heather) Jacobs, Rachel (Herschel) Kirker, Joseph (Caroline) Belis, Peter (Angela) Belis, Alisha (Jason) Roberts, Rebecca Dunn (wife of Christophe Tulet-Cote), Jessica Dunn, (wife of Carl Engman) and Sabrina (Michael) Leshko, eleven great grandchildren; Lauren, A.J., Natille, Nico, Anna B., Anna L. Daphne, Emelia, Ethan, Blake and Isaac, several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers; Robert and Ernest R. Jacobs and four sisters; Mary Undertilo, Elsie Kopnicky, Eleanor Weitkamp and Helen Jacobs.
Friends are welcome from 6-8 PM Sunday and from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, 724-745-8120, where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 AM, Tuesday, October 12, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Patrick Church followed by entombment in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
