Joseph J. Graff age 93, of Canonsburg, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 7:05 PM in Golden Living.
He was born October 4, 1915 in Washington, the son of Philip T. and Sarah Parnella Graff.
Mr. Graff graduated from Canonsburg High School class of 1935.
He served during World War II as Private First Class with the 571st Air Group 1037th Air Material Squadron, which he received Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Service Stars, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Graff was owner and operator of Graff Modern Shoe Shop in Canonsburg, where he specialized in fixing and repairing handicap shoes.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church, where he was an usher for over 45 years.
After his retirement he volunteered at the local food bank.
Mr. Graff was a member of the American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
Surviving are one sister, Dolly Messina of Canonsburg; two brothers, Stephen A. (Mary) Graff of Warner Robbins, Ga.; and Anthony S. (Theresa) Graff of Webster, NY. and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is sister, Anna E. Biernat.
Friends will be received on Friday, November 7, 2008 from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm and from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where a blessing service will be held at 9:00am followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Church at 9:30am. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg. Christian Mothers will recite Rosary at 3:00pm on Friday. Full military rites will be accorded by the combined honor guards of VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
