John Edward “Nonnie” SohydaI age 76 of Chardon Ohio, formerly of Uniontown and Canonsburg PA passed away unexpectedly Friday March 3, 2017 in University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, Chardon Ohio. He was born January 14, 1941 a son of the late John and Helen Banko Sohyda. He proudly served with the United States Army and was a lifetime member of the AMVETS post 109. Prior to his retirement in 1999 from Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities at Deep Wood, Mr. Sohyda was a longtime supporter and participant with the community and Special Olympics. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf and raising race horses.
Surviving are his two children; son John E. Sohyda III and his wife Courtney of Bowie MD, and daughter Vera D. Grimes and her husband William “Billy” of Farmington PA, three siblings; brother James “Jimmy” (Anna) Sohyda, of Ohio, sister Helen “Sissy” Fife of Ohio and Edward “Butchie” (Sandy) Sohyda of Uniontown PA, four grandchildren; Cassandra “Casey” and John IV “L J” Sohyda and Valerie “Val” and Dalton Grimes, his longtime friend Polly West and many other family members and friends.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Thursday March 9, 2017 at Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a blessing service will be held at 10am Friday March 10, 2017 with the Very Reverend Joseph Oleynik officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Full military rites will be accorded by the VFW post 191 Honor Guard.
