John F. Hirosky

September 1, 1945 — January 27, 2023

John F. Hirosky age 77 of Canonsburg passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 27, 2023, the date of what would have been his 55th wedding anniversary. He was in Florida where he lived during the winter. He was born September 1, 1945, in Clarksville, a son of the late Edward and Melanie Tyszkiewicz Hirosky.  Mr. Hirosky had lived in the state of California and in Houston, PA  where he was a member of St. Patrick Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish in Canonsburg. John was a graduate of Jefferson Morgan High School class of 1963, and a graduate of Waynesburg College with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. He proudly served with the United States Marines /Navy, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and was associated with the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 in Houston. John received an honorable medical discharge due to a service-related injury.

Prior to his retirement, John had been employed with the Federal Government in the Department of Defense as a supervisor of the defense contracting audit agency. He had been a scout leader for many years with the Boy Scouts of America and participated in Dancing Dads at Charters-Houston High School in plays such as Joseph and his Amazing Technicolored Dream Coat  and Camelot. He was an avid gardener and landscaper and a master woodworker. He most loved being at Walt Disney World.  He was an avid car enthusiast being a member of the Corvette Club of Orlando and loved driving his 2017 Corvette Stingray. On January 27, 1968, he married Margaret Whitmore who he met at Disneyland.  She passed away Friday April 1, 2016, after 48 years of marriage.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Lisa Anna Hirosky (Richard Hong) of Parrish Florida, Amy Meerdo and her husband Steven of Canonsburg and Brian Hirosky (Alyse Rummersfield) of Winter Garden, Florida.  He will also be missed by his companion Heidi Waugh and his brother David (Leslie) Hirosky of Clarksville and two granddaughters Hayley A. and Madison A. Meerdo. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are his two brothers Edward Hirosky II and Stanley "Cupsie´ Hirosky.

Friends and family are welcome from 2 until 8 pm Sunday, February 5, 2023, in SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 10:30 am Monday, February 6, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am in St Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg. Interment with Full Military Honors by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard and the United States Navy will follow at 12:30 pm in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp.
