John W. Cypher Jr., CPA, husband, father, friend to all he met, founder of the firm and mentor to many, age 91 of The Villages, Florida, formerly of Peters Township, and Eighty-Four, PA, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 13, 2025, in The Villages Hospital, FL. John was born May 30, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA, eldest son of the late John W. and Lillian M. Hollenbeck Cypher, Sr. Mr. Cypher was Catholic by faith and graduated from Hampton High School, then proudly served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. John was a 1960 graduate of the University of Miami in Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree and received his Certified Public Accountant license in July 1967. Mr. Cypher founded the CPA firm Cypher & Cypher in Canonsburg in 1974. He enjoyed outdoor activities and hobbies including golf, bicycling, tennis, and running. John was a life member of the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg, PA and a member of the American Legion Post 0347of Lady Lake, FL. In 1984, he married his current wife Flora May “Sally” Cypher (Christensen, nee Sarver) who survives after 40 years. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his four sons from his first marriage, Steven J. (Sandra) Cypher CPA, Duaine H. “Buck” (Leanora) Cypher, Daniel R. Cypher and Michael J. Cypher, his stepdaughters, Deborah (Steve) Klock, Linda (Ray) Christensen, Cynthia (Jay Oprins) Christensen and Kimberly Christensen, his brother, William (Linda) Cypher, sister Sally Porti, his grandchildren, Jessia Cypher, Alexis (Steven) Stoltenberg, Holly (Charles) Studt, Caleb Cypher, Megan Klock, Jordan Klock, Alexandra(Nick) Hausfeld, Emily (Tommy Cruger) Oprins, Elizabeth Oprins, 10 greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are his sister Lillian Jahn, two brothers, David Cypher and Roy Negley, and his first wife Ruth M. Becker Cypher.
Friends and family are welcome from 2 pm until 7 pm Friday April 25, 2025, at Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra LFD owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA, (724) 745-8120, where services with military honors by the United States Army and the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg will be held at 10 am on Saturday April 26, 2025.
