John E. Tomsic age 82 of Canonsburg, died Thursday September 23, 2010 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 18, 1928 in Canonsburg, son of the late Michael E. and Gertrude Hrebar Tomsic.
Mr. Tomsic was a graduate of Trinity High School class of 1947. He was a member of local #3 Iron workers and was a Plant Manger for the former Forbes Steel. During his retirement years he enjoyed delivering candy for Sarris Candies.
Mr. Tomsic was a member of St. Patrick Church where he served on the Holy Names Society and also as an Usher.
He lived all of his life in Strabane and Canonsburg where he was a member of SNPJ Lodge # 138 and the KSKJ St. Jerome's Lodge both of Strabane. Mr. Tomsic also served on Canon McMillan's School Board in the early 60's.
Known to his family and friends as the "Candy Man", his favorite past time was playing golf; loved listening to Polka's and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On June 18, 1949 he married his wife of 61 years Lucille E. Politan, who survives.
Also surviving are son, Ronald Tomsic and wife Elizabeth of Canonsburg; two daughters, Patricia Polly and husband James of Houston; Lori Carter and husband Kevin of Thurmont, MD.; six grandchildren, Justin Tomsic, Jennifer Polly, Nichole Yeager, Jaison Polly, Kevin Paul Carter and Connor Carter, seven great- grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, brother, Frank Tomsic and wife Florence of Paducah, Kentucky; two sisters, Agnes Bostjancic of Strabane and Dorothy Lesko of Columbus, Ohio and many nieces and nephews and his faithful companion dog "Chewy".
Also deceased are two sisters, Josephine Verholtz and Mary Pleskovich, two brothers, Joseph and Michael Tomsic.
Friends are welcome on Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where a Blessing Service will be held on Monday September 27, 2010 at 9:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Church. Entombment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg. In lieu of flowers, family suggest donations be made to American Cancer Society or to Debra of America 16 East 41st Street 3rd floor New York, New York 10017, in Memory of John.
