John T. Starek, Jr.

April 17, 1941 — May 29, 2016

John T. Starek, Jr., 75, of Washington, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016 in the Bridgeville Rehabilitation and Care Center, Bridgeville, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Canonsburg on April 17, 1941, a son of the late John and Edna Starek of Houston.

On November 9, 1963 he married his beloved wife, Frances M. Sobolewski Starek, who survives.

John was a graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School.  He attended Duquesne University and was a graduate of Robert Morris College.

He worked at Mellon Bank as a Banking Officer for over 35 years.  He then worked with the Washington County Council for Economic Development.  He had also worked as a realtor with Coldwell Banker.

He was a classic car enthusiast.  John was very proud of his black convertible 1970 Plymouth Barracuda.  He was the President of the Washington Cruisers.

John enjoyed working on home improvements in his home and always had a project in progress.  He also enjoyed working on his cars and electronic projects.

He was a wonderful, giving person who will be missed by all who knew him, especially his gray cat, Samantha.

Also surviving are his two loving sons, John T. Starek, III of Washington and Mark D. (Suemin) Starek of Madison, Alabama; a brother, Michael W. (Linda) Starek of Mt. Lebanon; two grandchildren, Alexandria Nicole Starek and Stephen Daniel Starek; a great granddaughter, Ariella Nicole Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family, there will be no viewing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 9:30 AM on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg.  A luncheon will immediately follow at the SNPJ Lodge 138, 138 Latimer Avenue, Strabane.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Suite E-201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 or to the Washington Area Humane Society, P. O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330 or to Angel Ridge Animal Rescue, P. O. Box 94, Meadowlands, PA 15347.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120.
