John P. Pagano age 93 of Houston passed away peacefully Friday April 14, 2017 in Canonsburg General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 8, 1923 in Canonsburg a son of the late John and Marietta DiCicco Pagano after their arrival from Avaellino, Italy. Mr. Pagano was a faithful lifetime member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg where he was a member of the Catholic Men’s Club and served as an usher. He had been employed at the former Canonsburg Pottery Company early in his career and in shipping at the RCA/Tac Tec until his retirement. He was an Avid bowler with the RCA Bowling League and was a Lifelong member of the Canonsburg Sportsmen’s Association.
Mr. Pagano dedicated his life to community service. He was a Houston Borough councilman for greater than 40 years serving as vice president and Health and Safety Commissioner and was honored in 2016 when the Houston Borough Building which he was involved in having built in 1977, was dedicated in his name. He was instrumental in getting the Police force organized and formed in the Borough. He was also awarded a citation of achievement for his years of service to the borough by State Senator Tim Solobay and representative Brandon Newman on his 90th birthday. Mr. Pagano was one of the original members of the Houston Pumpkin Festival Committee, serving for many years as president. He prided himself on having the festival on Pike Street with the Haunted House, and bed races and proceeds being given to Children’s Hospital and was very active in getting the Christmas Light Up Night organized.
On August 1,1948, he married Betty June Meredith who passed away September 12, 1995. Left behind to cherish his memory are his son William (Bernice) Pagano and daughter Janice (Russell) Round both of Washington, grandchildren; Jonathan (Laura) Phillippi, Kelly Pagano (Jeff) Miller, Nicole Pagano (Jerred) Naugle, Alyson (Rich) Tranquill and April Beighle (Steve) Devenney, step grandson; Jeffrey (Deidre) Round, greatgrandchildren; Morgan, Logan and Isabelle Phillippi, Leo and Sophie Miller, Luca and Dominic Tranquill and Jackson and Abigail Devenney, step greatgrandchildren; R.J., Nathan, Jeffrey, Jeremy and Rosalie Round and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Pagano was the last of his immediate family. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are two brothers; Carmen A. and James Pagano and seven sisters; Tressa Hyman, Cecilia Bechard, Lucille Carlet, Dorothy Pastorelli, Evelyn Pagano, Geraldine Richter and Dorothy Pagano who died in Infancy.
Friends are welcome from 1pm until 8pm on Tuesday April 18, 2017 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 10:30am Wednesday April 19, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11 am in St Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg with interment to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
