John McClosky age 92 of Canonsburg and Washington passed away Tuesday December 10, 2013 at Consulate Health Care of North Strabane. He was born August 30, 1921 at East Springfield Ohio, a son of the late Frank and Mary Hovat McClosky. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and saw action in Normandy, French Morocco, Tunisia and Africa receiving the Purple Heart Medal among others. Mr. McClosky had been a farmer in Washington for over 60 years and had also been employed as a Steelworker in the coke plant at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp. for many years. He enjoyed farming and reminiscing about his Army days, being a proud veteran. He had attended the Hillside Christian Community Church in Carnegie.
On June 24, 1950 he married Agnes Predajna who died December 22, 2006. He is survived by three daughters; Dolores "Dee" Richter of Washington, Sheryl Morgan of Cecil and Judy (Edmund) Urbanus of Canonsburg, Three sisters; Helen Grady, Mildred Willis and Dorothy Alkire, five brothers; Tony and Joe McClosky, Ben (Shirley)McClosky, David (Harriett) McClosky and Jim McClosky, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents is a daughter Betty Jo Dami, a grandson Alan Dami, a sister Mary Hepner and a brother Frank McClosky.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm Thursday December 12, 2013 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where services will be held at 11 am Friday December 13, 2013 with the reverends Michael Roach and David R. Morgan, (the deceased's former son in law), officiating. Interment to follow with full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion post 902 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 191 honor guard in Woodruff Memorial Park, North Strabane Twp.
