John J. Encandela age 93 of Houston passed away Wednesday, May 08, 2013 in his home with family by his side.
He was born October 3, 1919 in Canonsburg the son of the late Charles and Lucy Livolsi Encandela.
Mr. Encandela served during World War II with the Army Air Force Squadron C 1060th base unit as Private First Class, at which he received a Good Conduct medal, American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern with three Bronze Service Stars.
Mr. Encandela was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadowlands, the Sons of Italy and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 both of Canonsburg. He worked at the former McGraw Edison Plant in Canonsburg as a machine Operator.
On September 24, 1949 he married his beloved wife Mary Mazza, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Donna Shriver of Houston; a son, John A. Encandela of Long Island, New York; two grandsons Michael Maloy and Greg Shriver, a great-granddaughter Mya Maloy; two sisters, Mary Mazza and Jacqueline Gribbin and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased also are three sisters; twin sister Lena DeRosa, Sarah Encandela and Josephine Mersino and a brother, Caysntena "Gus" Encandela.
Friends are welcome on Friday, May 10, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be held at 9:30AM on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church with Rev. Carmen D'Amico as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Canonsburg. Full Military Honors will be accorded by the combined honor guard the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
