John B Agostinelli age 82 of Canonsburg died at 11:45 pm Tuesday November 2, 2010, all souls day, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 23, 1928 in Canonsburg a son of the late John N. and Assunta Goffi Agostinelli. Mr Agostinelli lived his entire life in Canonsburg where, prior to his retirement in 1984, he had been employed as a machinist and worked in the maintenance department at the former McGraw Edison Power Systems.
He served with the Pennsylvania National Guard and the United States Army during the Korean War in the 28th infantry, Heavy Mortar division as a staff sargent. A life member of St. Patrick church, and an usher at Holy Rosary church in Muse, Mr. Agostinelli was very involved in the church and school where he served on the parish counsel, the Parents Teachers Guild. He coached football, was involved in the Cub Scouts of America and was a wrestling referee for many years. He was a graduate of Canonsburg High School, class of 1948 where he was a wrestler and played football. Mr. Agostinelli also was Golden Glove boxing Silver Champion. He was always ready to help a friend in need and enjoyed woodworking, making toys and dollhouses for his grandchildren.
On April 15, 1950 he married Ann B. Arbogast who survives. Also surviving are three daughters Denise (Howard) Utz of Wichita, Kansas, Judi (Lou) Agostinelli-Pietosi of Canonsburg and Janette (Donald) Heitmeier of Venetia, a son John Keith (Jane) Agostinelli of Waynesburg, five grandchildren, Trey and Robert John Utz, and Amanda Dylan and Craig Heitmier , step grand children and step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family. Deceased are two brothers Jack and Phillip Agostinelli.
Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Friday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a blessing service will be held at 8:30am Saturday, November 6, 2010. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am in St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Twp. Full military rights will be accorded by the VFW post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion post 902 of Houston combined honor guard.
