Joann Tongel Charles age 79 of Canonsburg, passed away Peacefully Monday, January 26, 2015 in her home with her loving family by her side. She was born September 13, 1935 in Pittsburgh a daughter of the late John and Bertha Ellen Flory Tongel. Mrs. Charles lived most of her life in the Canonsburg area and had been a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. She was the owner, operator of the Charles House Rest Home in Canonsburg for over 40 years and with her family ran Bubby's Kitchen a food concession vendor at the Washington County Fair, Houston Pumpkin Festival, 4th of July Parade in Canonsburg, Indian Summer Festival in Cecil Twp. and Washington County Covered Bridge Festival for many years. Mrs. Charles enjoyed spending time with her family, taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, cooking, baking and visiting the Casino.
On August 15, 1954 she married David Charles who passed away May 7, 1992. Mrs. Charles leaves behind her five beloved children; Diane (Frank) Charles-Cossu, of Canonsburg, Darlene (Richard) Rozik of Washington, Doreen (John) Corey, David Charles and Danile (the late Richard Meny) Charles Meny all of Canonsburg, nine grandchildren; Jessica (William) Diggons, Christen (Tony) Wheat, Jeremy (Alyssa) Rozik and Tonya (James) Ramey, John Corey, David J. Charles, Michael Corey, Caitlyn Cossu and Angela Corey, six great grandchildren; Taylor, Bryan and Brayden Barcelona, Haley and Jackson Ramey and William Diggons IV, her brother, John (Marsha) Tongel of Pittsburgh and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents is a sister Theresa Tongel and her half brother Patrick Tongel.

Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:20 am. Saturday January 31, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am in Holy Rosary Roman Catholich church, Muse with reverend George, T. DeVille, pastor as celebrant. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
