Jennie M. "Dottie" (Sweitzer) Menichi

October 8, 1930 — May 31, 2016

Jennie M. “Dottie” Menichi, 85, formerly of Hickory, currently of Country House in Cumberland, Maryland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland, Maryland.

She was born on October 8, 1930 in Swanton, Maryland, a daughter of the late John C. and Homa A. Bowser Sweitzer.

On October 23, 1957 she married Ernest “Ernie” Menichi, who passed away on July 8, 2000 after 43 years of marriage.

For many years Dottie was a member of the Farm Women’s Club in Hickory and had also volunteered with the Mt. Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department.  Along with her husband, she actively participated in the yearly Hickory Apple Festival.

She loved spending time outdoors, gardening, planting flowers, and caring for her animals.  Most important to Dottie was her family.  God blessed her with a heart full of love for others.  She was selfless, strong, caring, and giving and was not into material things.  Dottie had a wonderful sense of humor, a big smile, and loved to joke and have a good laugh.  She also enjoyed working on the family farm.  She was often heard saying “mamma mea”.  Dottie was a bright star to all who met her and she will be greatly missed.

Surviving are two sisters, Betty Jean Steele of Cumberland, Maryland and Bonnie Lambert of Swanton, Maryland; nephew, Eugene Wilt and his wife Norma of Oakland, Maryland; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Bittinger Sweitzer of Swanton, Maryland, Emma Grego of Venetia, and Anna M. Corrado of Bethlehem; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond Sweitzer, Carl Sweitzer, Harvey Sweitzer, Gay Sweitzer, and Joy “JD” Sweitzer; six sisters, Elsie Lee, Eula Kitzmiller, Nellie Nazelrod, Mae Beckman, Laura “Jane” Madigan, and Emma Wilt; brother-in-law, Louis (the late Sarah “Betty”) Menichi; and father and mother-in-law, Stefano and Jennie Menichi.
