Janet M. (Talpas) Ford

Janet M. Ford, 68, of Houston passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2015 in her home.

She was born on September 18, 1946 in Canonsburg, the daughter of the late John G. Talpas and Blanche M. Luginski.

On July 2, 1979 she married Robert L. Ford, who passed away on January 31, 2015.

Janet was a devoted member of the Canonsburg Business and Professional Women.  She began her BPW career in November 1991 and was a member for 24 years.  In March 2015 Janet was elected to her third term as President.  In addition to her two prior terms as President, she also previously held numerous offices with BPW, including 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, two terms as Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and four terms as Parliamentarian.  Janet also served as Committee Chair on Issues Management, Membership, Reservations, two terms as Fashion Fair Chair, and Website Chair.  She also served as the 2nd Assistant Director with the BPW District 12 Office.  Janet received the Canonsburg BPW Woman of the Year Award in 2002.  In 2013 she was awarded the District 12 Tribute to Women Award, having been the first ever recipient of this award.

She is survived by her beloved son, Richard Franks of Taos, New Mexico; brother, Dennis J. Talpas of Butler; and goddaughter, Wendy May.

Janet will be sadly missed by all of her extended family and friends.

Family and friends are welcome from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2015 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a BPW Memorial Service will begin at 12:45 PM and a Catholic Blessing Service will follow at 1:00 PM.  Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Anova Hospice and Palliative Care, 1229 Silver Lane, Pittsburgh, PA 15136.
