Jane Hopper Hoon

August 4, 1925 — February 5, 2011

Jane Hopper Hoon left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on February 5, 2011 at Memorial Hermann Medical Center, Houston, Texas; with her family by her side. She was born in Canonsburg, PA to Walter and Sarah Fulton Hopper on August 4, 1925. After graduating from Canonsburg High School in 1943 she attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and on June 23, 1947 married the love of her life, John "Jack" Hoon and had three children. She worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone and Western Center School and Hospital in Canonsburg. In 1970 the family relocated to New Castle, PA where she was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, active in Welcome Wagon and employed in the office of Rockwell International. In 1978 Jane moved again with her husband, Jack to Alvin, Texas where she was his support in co-founding Diversified Ceramics Corporation. She was involved with Meals on Wheels and the First Presbyterian Church of Alvin where she was a member for 33 years until the day she passed.
She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother to her surviving daughters, Donna (Dan) Reynolds of Canonsburg, PA, Jackie Hnat of Alvin, Texas and son, David (Jamie) Hoon of Missouri City, Texas and grandchildren: Danielle Reynolds (Mike) Ault, Dustin (Nicki) Reynolds, Jason (Jami) Hnat, Brittany Hnat and fiancAC., Danny Davis, Jon Hoon and Blaine Hoon. She also left behind five beloved great-grandchildren; Malachi Krenzelak, Daniel and Nicholas Reynolds, Carter and Carli Hnat. Jane is also survived by nieces, Mary Jane (David) Podboy, Sallie Hopper and Susan (Jimmy) Foster and nephew, Sam Hopper as well as several nieces, cousins and friends. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hoon, her parents, brothers, Walter "Skip" Hopper and Jack F Hopper, sister in law, Helen Hopper and nephew, Jeffrey Hopper.
She enjoyed tearooms and going for coffee every morning with her friends exchanging jokes and banter and even after living in Texas for 33 years was still an avid Steelers fan! Jane was an accomplished watercolor portrait artist. Throughout her life she was a woman of strong faith with a never ending positive attitude. She will be remembered by all whose lives she touched for her funny quick wit, unselfish ways and constant caring of others.
Friends are welcome on Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday, February 11, 2011 from 10:00 to 11:00 am the time of the Funeral Service at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/ supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 with Reverend Thomas Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Bridgeville, PA
