James (Binx) Kern

James E. (Binx) Kern age 80 of Canonsburg, passed away at 11:50 pm Sunday August 4, 2013 in Golden Living of South Hills, following an extended illness. He was born January 24, 1933 in Strabane a son of the late Joseph and Mary Per Kern Sr. Mr. Kern had been employed at the former RCA plants in both Canonsburg and Meadowlands and prior to his retirement was employed in the shipping department at the former McGraw Edison Power Systems in Canonsburg. He had attended Trinity High School and had been a coach for youth football. Mr. Kern lived his life in the Strabane and Canonsburg areas, where he was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church. He enjoyed gardening and was a member of the SNPJ lodge 138 and the KSKJ St. Jerome Lodge 153 both of Strabane and the Labor Temple of Canonsburg.
On June 11, 1960 he married Julie Telesko who survives. Also surviving are two sons; James (Alexia) Kern of Perkase, and Mark (Dana) Kern of Washington, four grandchildren; Douglas, Claudia, Michael and Avery Kern, a brother Frank (Helen) Kern of Brookline, a sister, Mary (Andrew) Simko of Canonsburg and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are two brothers Joseph A. and Richard Kern and a sister Wilma Jean Kern.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday August 7, 2013 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a blessing service will be held at 10:30am Thursday August 8, 2013. Funeral services will follow at 11 am in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church with the Very Reverend Joseph Oleynik, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg
