James E. Boyan, age 73, of Canonsburg, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at 7:10 AM in the Greenery Special Care Center.
He was born on June 25, 1935 in Cecil, the son of the late Steve and Evaline Popich Boyan.
Mr. Boyan graduated from Canonsburg High School and served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
On March 17, 1961, he married Mary Ann Koch, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Cindy (Gerald) Spalla of Canonsburg; two grandchildren, Shanna and Zachary Spalla both of Canonsburg, three brothers, Steve (Kay) Boyan of Bethel Park; Ronald (Louise) Boyan of South Park; Donald (Susan) Boyan of Canonsburg; two sisters, Geraldine (Jack) Zeitler of Erie and Evelyn ( Richard) Lesniakowski of Canonsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a son, Dennis J. Boyan.
Mr. Boyan was a welder at the former McGraw-Edison for 30 years, retiring in 1991, and he owed Boyan's Amoco Gas Station for 20 years.
He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, a 50 year member of S.N.P.J. Lodge # 138 of Strabane, and a member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 861, Croation Fraternal Union, Polish National Union and White Eagles all of Canonsburg, and a member of Jefferson College Historical Society.
Mr. Boyan was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed listening to Polka music. He was also an enthusiastic fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.

Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
