Henry R. Lavrich

January 22, 1930 — March 23, 2023

Henry R. Lavrich, 93 of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully at Country Meadows of Bridgeville Thursday March 23, 20 23., with his family by his side.  He was born January 22, 1930, in Strabane, a son of the late Anton and Josephine (Bobnar) Lavrich.

He graduated from Trinity High School in 1948, worked at the W.S. George Pottery from

1946-1951.  In 1949 he started the Henry Lavrich Orchestra then enlisted in the

U.S. Army (1951-1953).  He was stationed in Germany as a Motor Pool Sargent.

When returning from the service, he began playing the tristate area with his

band until 1974, being an accomplished accordion player and musician.

Henry also was employed as a cabinet maker for General Wood Crafting of

Canonsburg and at Cooper Industries/Canonsburg in the Shipping Department as

a carpenter until his retirement in 1991, after 30 years of service. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. During his retirement Henry enjoyed several hobbies, such as woodworking and refinishing, gardening, and being an avid bowler at the S.N.P.J., in his younger years, and attending polka dances with his wife. He also enjoyed donating his time to shut-ins by entertaining them with his

musical abilities and treating them to his home-made goodies.

He was a faithful member of St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick’s Church of Canonsburg, S.N.P.J.

Lodge 138 and the K.S.K.J. St Jerome Lodge 153, both of Strabane, the V.F.W. Post 191 of

Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 of Houston.

On April 18, 1959, he married Angeline Kunic Lavrich who survives after 63 Years of marriage. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his son Don Lavrich and his companion Ellie Wilkes of Washington, daughter Kathy Yeakel and companion Curtis Treadway of Georgia, his beloved grandchildren Lexi Lavrich of Canonsburg, Winston Stanley and Bud Orr of Georgia and one great grandchild, Tommy, his brother James Lavrich of Indiana, his sisters Agnes D’Arrigo of Canonsburg and Joan (Donald “Ace”) Zelensky of Strabane and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his parents are two siblings, Josephine Lavrich Marsek and Anthony Lavrich.

Friends and family are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday March 27, 2023, in SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 9:40 am. Tuesday March 28, 2023.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am in St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard and the United States Army. Entombment will take place in Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
