Henry C. "Hank" Sala

Henry C. "Hank" Sala age 73 of Canonsburg died Monday May 14, 2012 in Canonsburg Hospital.
He was born January 20, 1939 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Henry Calvin and May Jane McChesney Sala. In his early years he lived with the late F. W. "Barney" and Eva Patsch in Houston. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Navy where he served 19 years 4 months, retiring in 1976 as Boatswain's Mate First Class. Mr. Sala served three tours in Vietnam as a river patrol boat captain and was awarded the Bronze Star. After his Navy retirement, he returned to the Canonsburg area and was employed by Shenango Inc. at Neville Island until it closed, then transferred to the Sharpsville plant until it closed in 1993.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg and also a member of the American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
On February 1, 1985, he married Mildred Paff, who survives. Also surviving is a son Vincent E. (Christie) Sala and grandchildren Logan, Madison, Regan and Ethan of Conajorharie, N. Y., stepsons; Robert Paff of Canonsburg, William (Colleen) Paff of Finleyville and Benjamin Paff of Washington, and grandchildren, Britteny and Brandon Paff. Deceased are three sisters, Lois Cumer, Nancy Traska and Betty Lemon and a brother Howard "Rusty" Sala.
Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Wednesday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724 745-8120 where services will be held at 12:30 pm Thursday, May 17, 2012 with Pastor Joe DiDonato officiating. Interment will follow with full military rites by the American Legion Post 902 and the VFW Post 191 Honor Guard, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp at 1:30 pm. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 902 Honor Guard, 124 West Pike Street Houston Pa. 15342.
