Helen A. Horwatt age 96 of Canonsburg passed away Wednesday,
May 29, 2013, in Manor Care of Peters Twp. She was born March 21, 1917 in Canonsburg a daughter of the late Wasyl and Julia Balash Stanko. Mrs. Horwatt lived her entire life in Canonsburg and was a faithful member of St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church where she helped with many church functions. In her early years she worked for the former Continental Can and with her husband in the shipyards.
Mrs. Horwatt was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, especially during the holidays. She had been a member of the former Rosary Society and choir at St. Michaels. On July 30, 1940 she married Frank T. Horwatt, who passed away August 10 1991.
Surviving is her daughter- in-law C. deRicci Horwatt of Canonsburg, her granddaughter deRicci T. (Joshua) Horwatt-Getty of Canonsburg, a sister Julia Rock and a brother William Stanko, both of Washington and many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband is her son F. Theodore Horwatt who passed away on Sunday October 22, 2005, four brothers; John, Steve, Michael and Nicholas "Chike" Stanko and three sisters; Mary McCensky, Anna Addis and Sophia Mandus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church on Monday June 3, 2013 with reverend Joseph Jugan, pastor as celebrant. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Twp. Panahida services will be held at 7pm Sunday in the Funeral Home, Family suggests memorial contributions in Mrs. Horwatt's name be made to St. Michael's Byzantine Rite Catholic Church 166 East College Street Canonsburg, 15317.
