Helen L. Chemento age 91 of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 12, 2014 in Family Hospice and Palliative Care, Mt Lebanon, following a brief illness. She was born January 26, 1923 in Avella a daughter of the late John S. and Stella Veronica Pawlowski Szalanski. Mrs. Chemento lived most of her life in Canonsburg where she was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. She had been employed at both the Canonsburg and Meadowlands plants with the former RCA until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of the White Eagles Society, an avid bingo player and liked visiting the Meadows Casino. Mrs. Chemento enjoyed cooking for her entire family.
On March 6, 1943 she married Chester "Futta" Chemento who passed away December 20, 2,000. Surviving are her two daughters; Cheryl (Vince) Racioppi of Houston and Maureen (Jack) Schantz of Carnegie, two grandchildren; Tammy (Phil) Schaner and George B. Taro, a great granddaughter Alivia Schaner, two goddaughters, Carol McCloskey and Jacqueline Martin, several step grandchildren, great grandchildren great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents is a sister, Jennie Martin and two brothers, Joseph and Anthony Szalanski.
Friends are welcome from 2 until 8pm Monday July 14, 2014 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 9:30 am Tuesday July 15, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday in St Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg withy interment to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
