Harry W. Williams

Harry W. "Pick" Williams age 90 of Canonsburg passed away silently in his sleep on Wednesday September 19, 2012, in the care of his devoted son, following a brief illness. He was born June 22, 1922 in Houston a son of the late William H. and Jennie Alderson Williams. On November 15, 1947 he married Margaret Keron who died January 20, 2001. Mr. Williams was a member of the Houston United Methodist Church, F&AM Chartiers Lodge 297 of Canonsburg and a life member of the Moose Lodge. He had been employed at the former Fort Pitt Bridgeworks for years and McGraw Edison Power Systems where he retired at age 62. He taught blue print and fabricating for three years at Washington Institute of Technology and night classes at Canon McMillan High School. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and loved teaching his grandson Josh to do both. He also enjoyed watching Pirate baseball and was a good league bowler, checker and Euchre player.
Mr. Williams was a World War II Veteran who served with the 393rd Infantry, where he was honored with two Purple Hearts for being wounded in action and a bronze star. He will always be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help his family.
Surviving at are his son Gregory Williams of Canonsburg, his daughter Judy (Elmer Lee) Sobansky of Cecil, four grandchildren Joshua G. Williams, Jodie, Jill and Elmer Sobansky II and three great grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family. Preceeding him in death in addition to his wife and parents are a brother Allen (Ack) Williams, A sister Callista June (Kic) Greely a nephew James (Bear) Greely and his hunting and fishing buddy "Uncle Jules Mathot.
Family and Friends are welcome from 6-8pm Friday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P, Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where services will be held at 11am Saturday September 22, 2012. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Full military rites will be accorded by the VFW post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion post 902 of Houston Honor Guard.
