Harry A. Carothers age 83 of Washington, formerly of Bridgeville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Consulate Health Care of North Strabane, after a brief illness. He was born on August 7, 1930 in Carnegie, the son of the late John Henry and Marie Gerlock Carothers.
Mr. Carothers served during the Korean war with the Untied States Marine Corps.; earning him the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Battle stars and the Untied Nations Service Medal and was a prisoner of war.
He worked for Relieance Universal Concrete Pipe Division for 22 years, he also worked for Casper Colosimo and Son's for 22 A½ years as a truck driver and after his retirement in1991 until 2005 he we was a self employed in small engine service repair business.
Mr. Carothers was a member and passed Senior Vice for seven years; of VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and a member of American Legion Post 902 of Houston. He was known to all as a"jack of all trade" especially working on small engines and woodworking and also in his spare time going to the Casino.
Surviving are his faith full companion and caregiver, Eleanor Pantely of Washington, her family that he considered his own, are Kathleen (Jake) Spiker of Houston, Paul (Clorinda) Pantely of Texas, Jason (Misty) Spiker and Tiffany Lyle as grandchildren and Brock Spiker and Jacob Lyle as great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Dorthia Carothers of McDonald, and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased also are his wife Mary C. Dupesko, sister, Mary Niel and two brothers, Charles and Richard Carothers. He was the last of his immediate family.
Friends are welcome on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc.; Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where funeral service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 12:30 PM with Pastor Andrew Cobucci, officiating. Interment will follow at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville at 1:30PM. Full Military honors will be accorded by the VFW Post 191 honor guard.
