Gerald R. "Jerry" DeRiso

Gerald R. "Jerry" DeRiso, 81, of Eighty Four, passed away at his home on Monday, October 6, 2014.

He was born on December 7, 1932 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Luigi and Carmella Gigante DeRiso.

Jerry graduated from Central Catholic High School where he was active in several sports. He was a Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was an insurance salesman for 38 years in Pittsburgh, retiring in 1995. He was very close to many of his clients who knew him fondly as "Mr. Jerry".

He was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Canonsburg.

Jerry loved spending time with his family, especially spoiling his grandchildren. He enjoyed working around the house and watching Pittsburgh sports teams and westerns on tv. He also enjoyed negotiating a good deal on cameras and watches, frequenting flea markets and thrift stores.

Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Marie K. DeRiso, whom he married on July 27, 1979.

Also surviving are his sister, Ann Louise Barbarine of Oxnard, CA; his children and grandchildren, Mary DeRiso and her husband Lou Ortego of Pittsburgh, Cindy Hadden of Plum Boro (Jason, Joe, Charlotte), Geraldine Ibraham and her husband Al of Apollo (Michael, Dan), Diane Reith of Tampa, FL (Kristina, Tony, Tim, Christian), Gretchen Wagner and her husband Mitch of Venetia (Tim, Cecile, Luke, Gina, Tony), Karen DeRiso and her husband John Williams of Mt. Lebanon (Isabella, Emmalyn, Eryn), Brad Kilzer and his wife Ruth of Denver, CO (Max, Julia, Claire), and Seth Kilzer and his wife Jane of Upper St. Clair (Jake, Sofia); and 7 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great grandchild, Connor Hadden.

Friends are welcome from 3-8 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2014 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 724-745-8120. A celebration of Jerry's life will begin at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 10, 2014 in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 139 N. Jefferson Ave., Canonsburg. Entombment will be private in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
