Genevieve "Jennie" Dolores Macanga 91 of Houston died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 in Allegheny General Hospital after a three week illness.
She was born July 31, 1917 in Cokeburg, Pa., the daughter of Polish immigrant parents Michael and Mary Kubic Moskal.
Known to all as "Jennie", she had the greatest thumb to grow about anything and just about any where. She loved taking care of the birds in the neighborhood which ended up in her yard in any kind of weather.
She was a devoted wife and mother, keeping a tidy home helping with home work and preparing ethnic Polish meals and desserts with always a story with it.
Mrs. Macanga will be remembered for telling her stories of growing up in Mather and Rich Hill (i.e. Meadowlands) as well her surprise 90th birthday party.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, making close, collecting, and taking care of her animals especially her cats.
On April 26, 1941 she married Edward Macanga who passed away on October 17, 2003.
Surviving are son, Edward (Diane) Macanga, Jr. of Medina, Ohio; daughter, Judith "Judy" (Furman) Ashbrook of Houston; six grandchildren, Mark and wife Bobette, Eric and Anna Macanga and Brian, Ryan and Genevieve Lawton; great-grandchildren, twins Shane and Kyla, Ariel, Alexa and Chloe Lawton; brothers, Edward " Mutchie" and Thomas Moskal both of Rich Hill; sister, Dorothy Sacco of Rich Hill and sister-in-law, Gertie (Amil) Hodor of Washington; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, John and Theodore Moskal and four sisters, Helen Blasinsky, Frances Rasefske, Pauline Kusky and Marie Moskal who died at the age of three.
Friends will be received on Saturday, December 20, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and on Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724-745-8120) where a blessing service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2008 at 11:30 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm in Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church, Meadowlands, with Father John O'Shea officiating. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray
