Frank G. "Shanks" Gasper age 93, of Strabane Woods formerly of Canonsburg, died at 5:40 AM on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in Washington Hospital.
He was born August 20, 1915, in Sykesville, Pa., the son of John and Veronica Chopp Gasper.
Mr. Gasper served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, SNPJ Lodge 138 of Strabane and live most of his life in Canonsburg.
Mr. Gasper was one of the founders of Washington Grocers Association.
He worked in the Alexander Co-Op Store in Strabane from 1928 to 1971, from 1971 to 1980, he and his wife co-owners of Gabby Heights Market in Washington.
Mr. Gasper was an avid golfer, bowler and fisherman.
He was a terrific handy man.
On January 25, 1941, he married Helen Homerosky, who past away on July3, 2000.
Surviving is son, Frank J. (Karen) Gasper of Washington; daughter, Deborah A. (John) Mele of Canonsburg; three grandchildren, James Michael (Staci) Gasper, Michael Ryan (Erin) Gasper and Abigail Helaine Mele; four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jennavieve, Emma and Olivia Gasper and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three sisters Marie Gropper, Ann Ravelock and Helen Hritko; three brothers, Joseph, Andrew and John Gasper.
Mr. Gasper was the last of his immediate family.
Friends are welcome on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 3:00 to 8:00PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, (724-745-8120), where a Blessing Service will be held at 9:30AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in St. Patrick Church. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray. Family suggest donations be made to St. Patrick's School. Full military rites will be accorded by the combined honor guards Veterans of Foreign War Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
