Francis "Fritz" Tkach age 78 of Strabane, died Thursday, February 19, 2009 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born January 16, 1931 in Morgan, a son of John and Elizabeth Urban Tkach and was a graduate of South Fayette High School. He lived in Strabane for the past 52 years, where he was a member of the KSKJ St. Jerome Lodge 153 and the SNPJ Lodge 138, and a member of St. Patrick R.C. Church in Canonsburg.
Mr. Tkach served with the United States Army and was employed as a construction foreman with Gladden Interiors prior to his retirement.
He was an avid Slovenian-style Polka fan, who loved listening to his music and dancing with his wife. He enjoyed all types of sports especially soccer, and had won several amateur soccer championships, including WPIAL, Keystone League, West Penn Cup, National Open and National Amateur Cup. Mr. Tkach is a soccer inductee in the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame.
On April 27, 1957 he married Marlene Hostinsky, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters; Diane (Tim) Lyda of Pittsburgh and Susan (Bill) Tuttle of North Wales PA., a son Ronald (Sara Taylor) Tkach of Washington two grandchildren: Jessica and Robert Tuttle, two brothers John (Mildred) Tkach of Pittsburgh and William (Dorothy) Tkach of Bridgeville; two sisters, Grace (Charles) Vidoni and Janet (William) Logsdon both of Bridgeville and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind countless, loyal friends.
At Fritz's request there will no public visitation. A private family visitation will be held at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Saturday, February 21, 2009 in St. Patrick R.C. Church. The family requests that friends and family meet at the church by 9:15 AM. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp. Full Military Rites will be accorded by the VFW Post 191of Canonsburg and the American Legion Post 902 of Houston Honor Guard.
