Frances Geraldine (Vercek) Polosky

Frances Geraldine “Shim” Polosky, 85 of Canonsburg passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in South Hills Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Canonsburg.

She was born on March 29, 1932 in Strabane to Joseph and Mary Velpert Vercek who preceded her in death.

On July 7, 1951 she married Stanley A. “Sasa” Polosky who passed away on May 23, 2003

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Canonsburg. Mrs. Polosky worked at several locations in the area throughout her life including Hazel Atlas Glass in Washington, Canonsburg Pottery, Canon-McMillan School District and at South Hills Convalescent Center.

Mrs. Polosky was a huge Pittsburgh Penguin Hockey fan. She enjoyed watching their games on TV and displayed her loyalty to the team proudly. Mrs. Polosky also enjoyed playing the lottery, watching Hallmark movies on television and listening to WJPA radio. Her favorite music to listen to was polkas and she especially loved to eat dinner out with her family and friends at many local establishments.

She is survived by her sons Stanley J. Polosky (Celeste) of Canonsburg, Gregory A. Poplawski (Anna) of Garfield, New Jersey, Robert D. Polosky of Canonsburg and William M. Polosky (Patricia) of Canonsburg, her brother Tom Vercek of Vero Beach, Florida, her two grandchildren Justin Polosky and Michael Jeniskis and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Joe Vercek and her sisters Mary Ann O’Klesson, Dorothy Chesnik, Elizabeth Rodgers and a son who died in infancy.

Friends are welcome from 2~8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Canonsburg.
