Frances A. (Day)Wylie age 94 of Houston passed away peacefully at 6:30pm Sunday January 18, 2015 in her home with her loving family by her side. As Frances would say she "went over the rainbow to be with the Lord". She was born January 1, 1921 in Burgettstown a daughter of the late Albert C. and Florine E. Crawford Day. Mrs. Wylie lived most of her life in Houston where she was a very active member of the Houston United Presbyterian Church being an eighty-one year member, who had served as a deacon. Mrs. Wylie was a 1942 graduate of Canonsburg High School then served as a Yeoman first class in the United States Navy during World War II. Prior to her retirement she was a dietary supervisor at the former Mayview State Hospital. She was a regular member of the American Legion post 902 of Houston and also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Friends of Chartiers Houston Community Library and a member of the Monday Night Card Club for over 40 years. Mrs. Wylie served on the Election Board was a member of the Chartiers Houston Senior Citizens volunteered with Meals on Wheels and bowled with the Church and Mayview bowling leagues. She was an avid sports fan, who was devoted to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
On February 15, 1944 she married James L. Wylie who passed away March 3, 1997. Surviving are her three daughters; Janet (Don "Zip") Conner of Washington, Janice (Alex "Nob") Nakoneczny of Houston and Joanie (Neal) Smith of Wellsburg, West Virginia, seven grandchildren; Duane (the late Monica) Conner, Daryl (Kristen)Conner, Dawn (Brian) Zendt, Jarrod (Shannon) Nakoneczny, Darcy (Ben) Stohon, Nicole (Aaron Wishart) Smith and Ryan (Brooke) Smith, nine great grandchildren; Josh and Nathan Conner, Payten and Camden Conner, Alexis and Ambre Zendt, Deklan Nakoneczny, Jack Stohon and Atley Smith, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Donna and Roger Nixon and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wylie was the last of her immediate family. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are four sisters; Harriet A. Celento, Dorothy Surich, June Coneby, and Gladys Marie Day, two brothers, Thomas C. Day and James Day.
Friends are welcome from 6-8pm Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra Owner Supervisor, Lin Webb funeral director, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing services will be held at 10:20am Thursday January 22, 2015 by the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 191 honor guard. Funeral services will follow at 11am in the Houston United Presbyterian Church 102 North Main Street Houston with Reverend Clarejean Haury, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg with full military rites. Memorial contributions may be made to Houston United Presbyterian Church or the Chartiers Houston Community Library.
