Frances J. Mele, 78, of Canonsburg passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015 in Presbyterian Senior Care in Washington, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Washington on June 25, 1936, a daughter of the late James V. and Florence R. Longo Sonson.

She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School. Frances was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish in Canonsburg where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and Guild. She was strong in her faith and had a great love of God and her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Frances loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and preparing meals for family gatherings.

On June 29, 1957 she married her beloved husband, John Mele, who survives.

Also surviving are her four precious children, John A. (Debbie) Mele of Canonsburg, Robert F. (Lorie) Mele of Houston, Frances A. (David) Paluda of Houston, and James E. (Jennifer) Mele of Houston; two sisters, Mary Jane (Steve) Yevins of Washington and Rita (the late Terry) Fetsko of Canonsburg; seven grandchildren, Bobby, Ryan, Abby, Jacob, and Juliana Mele and Michael and Maria Paluda; a sister in law, Helen Sonson of Wexford; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are a brother Vince Sonson and a sister, Leonora (the late Elmer) Jackson.

Friends are welcome from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 and from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra Owner/Supervisor, Lin Webb Funeral Director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg 725-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 9:30 AM on Thursday, April 16, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 10:00 AM in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
