Eva Cadez Kulik

Eva Cadez Kulik, 103, of Washington, formerly of Houston, passed away peacefully Friday, February 24, 2023, at her home in Strabane Woods, with her devoted daughter by her side. She was born April 27, 1919, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Daniel and Maria Cygan Kotyk. Eva lived her life in Canonsburg and Houston and was a graduate of Canonsburg High School, class of 1937 and the Canonsburg School of Nursing in 1940. She later received a bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nursing at California State College in 1970. Raised Orthodox, she became Roman Catholic when she married her late husband Frank H. Cadez. She had been employed as an Industrial Nurse with the RCA plant in Canonsburg and at Canonsburg Hospital in the recovery room. Prior to her retirement Eva had been employed at the former Western Center as an Assistant Director of Nursing. Eva loved to travel the world, visiting places such as China and Russia. She also enjoyed traveling with her friends from the RCA travel group, and often visited family out west in Montana, Oregon, Wyoming, and Colorado. Left behind to cherish her memory is her beloved daughter Judy Smith and her husband Bart of Greeley, Colorado, her grandchildren, Jessica and Dorothy Smith and Katie Poffenbarger, her son-in-law Jeff Fassett of Wyoming, and several nieces and nephews. Eva was the last of her immediate family. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents, daughter Fran Cadez , five brothers: Steve, Harry, Frank, William, and John Kotyk; and five sisters: Anna, Helen, and Pearl Kotyk, Julia Verakis, and Nellie Koval. Eva’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Strabane Woods and Gateway Hospice for their loving care of their dear mother and grandmother. Friends and family are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023, at SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC. Joseph P Salandra LFD owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
