Eugene (Bill) Renko,Sr.

Eugene (Bill) Renko, Sr. age 91 of Strabane, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, in Golden Living Center, Canonsburg.
He was born on July 13, 1920, in Lovington, Illinois, son of the late Frank and Mary Renko of Meadowlands. He was a 1939 graduate of Trinity High School.
Mr. Renko was a staff sergeant with 16th Mobile Repair and Reclamation Squadron, was stationed at Ipswich Air Force Base, Ipswich, England during the war and which he received Good Conduct Metal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and also World War II Victory Medal.
He was a lifelong member of KSKJ Lodge, SNPJ Lodge 138 both of Strabane and the AFU Lodge.
Mr. Renko was employed by Canon-McMillan School District from 1952 through 1985 as a bus mechanic and coordinator. During his retirement he enjoyed playing the button box, socializing with friends at the grocery store, post office and bank, and spending time with grandchildren.
On October 7, 1942, he married Josephine Delost of Strabane, his loving wife of 69 years who survives.
Also surviving are a son, William (Catherine (Katrencik)) Renko, Jr. of Houston; a daughter, Janice (Dennis) Martin of Peters Twp.; three grandchildren, Anne (Don) Cross, Matthew Martin and Michael (Robin) Martin; three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Allison and Liea Cross and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four sisters, Mary Reed, Sylvia Reese, Mabel Wise and Gertrude Fenton and two brothers, Frank Renko, Jr. and Charles Renko.
Friends are welcome from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, April 1, 2012 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where a Blessing Service will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM in St. Patrick Church with Rev. Jack Bateykefer as celebrant. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp. Full military honors will be accorded by the combined honor guard of American Legion Post 902 of Houston and V.F.W. Post 191 of Canonsburg.
