Ervin "Mirt" A. Yarkosky

Ervin A. “Mirt” Yarkosky age 90 of Strabane passed away Sunday April 2, 2017 in TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. He was Born October 12, 1926 in Strabane a son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Potocer Yarkosky. Mr. Yarkosky had proudly served with the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Haven which was the first ship to enter Nagaski Japan after the Atomic Bomb mission to rescue prisoners of war. He lived his entire life in Strabane and was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. Prior to his retirement, he had been a general foreman in the Test Department at the former McGraw Edison Power Systems and Cooper Industries, manufacturers of electrical transformers in Canonsburg. Mr. Yarkosky was an avid Steeler, Pirate and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed gardening,  had a green thumb and had the “know how” to fix or repair anything. He was a member of the VFW post 191 in Canonsburg, the American Legion post 902 in Houston and the Fraternal Order of Bears in Meadowlands.

On July, 23, 1949 he married Albina “Beanie” Staniszewski who passed away August 26, 2012 after celebrating 63 years of marriage. Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter Andrea (Dennis) Rybacki of Canonsburg and his son James Yarkosky of Washington, four grandchildren Amy Rybacki, Andrew Rybacki, Kelly (Brian) Renne and Jason (Lyndsi) Yarkosky, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Yarkosky was the last of his immediate family. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are two sisters; Evelyn Strimel and Mary Ann Zofchak and a brother Robert Yarkosky.

Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Wednesday April 5, 2017 in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will be recited at 9:30am Thursday April 6, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in St. Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street Canonsburg followed by interment with full military rites accorded by the VFW post 191 Honor Guard in St. Patrick Cemetery.
