Elmer Jennings Hill, Jr., 90 of Upper St. Clair passed away peacefully on October 29, 2016 at St. Clair Memorial Hospital.
He was born on August 27, 1926 In Taylorville, Illinois, the son of Elmer J. Hill, Sr., and Ruby Wills Hill, who preceded him in death.
On June 16, 1947 in Mt. Lebanon, he married Lois Grace Hammill who survives.
He graduated from Cecil High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army as a Sargent First Class., 57th Field Artillery Battalion in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater (Okinawa and Korea) in 1945 through 1946.
Mr. Hill graduated from Duquesne University in 1950 with a Business Degree and worked as a manager and ultimately owner of Grace’s Market in Mt. Lebanon until his retirement in 1982.
Through his adult life he enjoyed traveling, camping, building and flying model airplanes, and hosting pool parties in his back yard with family and friends. He was a long time member of the Greater Pittsburgh ARCS flying club.
Elmer leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years Lois Grace of Upper St. Clair, three children, Claudia (Ben) Clark of Pittsburgh, Karen (John) Latimer of Phoenix, AZ, and Clifford (Linda) Hill of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer Highfield-Castro of Santa Fe, NM, Jessica (Ryan) Miller of Santa Fe, NM, Nicole Hill of Pittsburgh and Natalie Hill of San Francisco, CA, step grandchildren Jonathan Latimer and Annie Munday of Surrey, England.
At the request of the deceased, private family visitation and services will be held at Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 W Pike Street, Canonsburg (724)745-8120. Inurnment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
