Ellen Ruth Karchella

Ellen Ruth Karchella age 78 of Canonsburg, passed away Sunday October 5, 2014 in Allegheny General Hospital Hospital following an extended illness. She was born November 13, 1935 in Fredericktown a daughter of the late Thomas and Blanch Fike Meese. She lived most of her life in Canonsburg and Muse and was a Catholic. Mrs. Karchella had been employed as a Psychiatric Aide at the former Mayview State Hospital and had been a member and past president of the Retired Public Employees of Pennsylvania AFSCME Chapter 13 Subchapter 8402. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of both the Muse Independent Club and the Muse Volunteer Fire Department. Mrs. Karchella was also a member of the AGA and the Moose Lodge in Canonsburg.
Surviving is her son Zane (Linda) Karchella of Muse and three daughters; Darla (Marc Drier) Karchella of Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, Sonia (Charlie Howeworth) Karchella and Jollyn (Terry) Nolan both of Stewart Florida, four grandchildren Josie (Jason) Zondory, Dance (Kate) Drier, Madigan (Alisabeth) Drier and Carolyn Nolan, two great grandchildren Micah Raugh and Aleah Drier and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. Deceased are a brother Thomas Meese and a sister Elma Arblaster.
Friends are welcome from 2pm until 8pm Thursday October 9, 2014 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, Lin Webb, funeral director 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where a blessing service will be held at 11 am Friday, with reverend George T. DeVille, pastor of Holy Rosary Church, Muse officiating. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Canonsburg.
