Elizabeth M. "Betty" Slaney

July 3, 1921 — March 22, 2012

Elizabeth M. Slaney, formerly of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2012 at the age of 90. She was born in Nottingham, England and grew up in Scotland and Wales. Elizabeth, known to many as Betty, served during WWII in the British ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) as a field photographer helping to locate the V2 rocket launchers. Her beloved husband, John Samuel Slaney, a fighter pilot for the RAF (Royal Air Force) passed way in 2008.
Betty is survived by son Patrick Slaney and his partner Susan Rice of Massachusetts, daughter Victoria Ross and her husband John Ross of Pennsylvania, grandsons Patrick John Ross and Alexander Slaney Ross and their wives Allison and Rebecca, great granddaughter Brianna Nicole Ross and great grandsons, Kevin Patrick Ross and Samuel Slaney Ross.
Betty had many talents e.g. accomplished seamstress; prolific knitter and gourmet cook to name a few. From a young age she was always interested in art and when she and John moved to Greensburg, PA in 1968 she started to take art classes at Seton Hill College. She eventually developed her own modern style using the medium of acrylic paint on Plexiglas and was well known in the Pittsburgh art community. Her art has machine like precision, but was all done by the hand of a mathematically sophisticated artist.
At the request of the family, there will be no public visitation. A private burial will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA.
