Elias George, Jr.

Elias George, Jr., 92 of Illinois formerly of Washington passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 in Illinois.

He was born on October 19, 1924 in Washington to Elias George, Sr., and  Martha Thomas George who preceded him in death.

On October 12, 1947 he married Martha Winkler who survives.

He was the oldest of 15 children.

Elias loved wrestling! He was a wrestler, ran track and played football in high school. In 1946 Elias was a Big Ten wrestler at Indiana University. In 1949 he graduated from Oklahoma (now Oklahoma State). For over 50 years he was a high school “Coach” of wrestling and football. He started in Goodland, KS for a year then Blue Island, IL for a year and then transferred to Oak Lawn, IL for six years. In 1958 he went to Evanston, Illinois having been selected coach from among 35 other applicants.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Julie (Ted) Windsor of Winnetka, Illinois, his siblings  Kenneth, John (Marian), Pete (Melba) Joe (Kay), Michael (Debbie), Helen, Nancy (Chuck), Anthony, William and Bob, and grandchildren Julian, Adrian, Lily Windsor and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia E. George Scott, and brothers Tony, David, Ben and Paul George.

There will be no public visitation in Pennsylvania. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 601 W. McMurray Road, Canonsburg, PA 15317. Everyone please meet at church. Interment will follow in a family farm cemetery in Eighty-Four, PA. Full military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P.
