Elfriede Kunigunde Unger, age 82, of South Park, formerly of New Jersey and Germany, passed away at 7:07 am Saturday July 26, 2014 in Donnell House Washington, following an extended illness.
She was born January 22, 1932 in Langenargen Germany, a daughter of the late Richard and Anna Unger. Mrs. Unger lived most of her life in Red Bank New Jersey and the past 20 years in the South Park area where she was a member of St Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church and the prayer group of the church. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Unger had been a Bridal Consultant and yoga instructor. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and extended family to whom she was affectionately known as "Omi".
Surviving are her two loving children, Patrick S. (Maureen) Smith of Peters Twp. and Julie Ann (John) Vavrick of Manapalan, NJ; her brothers, Richard (Ingalore) Unger of Germany and Herman (Inge) Unger of Switzerland; a sister, Helga Vaccotti of Germany; and three grandchildren, Liebe Anne (William) Gamble, Shannon K. Smith, and Spencer S. Smith. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Deiter Unger.
Friends are welcome from 9:30 am until 11:30 am, the time of a Catholic blessing service, on Monday July 28, 2014 in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120. Interment will follow in Langenargen Germany.
