Eleanor R. Tirimacco

Eleanor R. Tirimacco age 82 of Peters Twp. formerly of Canonsburg, died Sunday September 20, 2009 in her home, surrounded by her daughters.
Mrs. Tirimacco was born September 23, 1926 in Mahanoy City, Schuylkill County, into a large Polish - Lithuanian family, a daughter of the late John A. and Regina Lauritis Malinowski. She lived in Canonsburg for over fifty years where she was a member of St. Patrick church.
Eleanor (Ellie) led a life defined by her commitment to the importance of education and community involvement. She was a graduate of Hahnemann Medical College
and Hospital School of Nursing, now Drexel University, College of Medicine in Philadelphia. She received her B.S. in Nursing, graduating Cum Laude, from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where she was selected to be in Who's Who of American Universities.
Eleanor (Ellie) led a life defined by her commitment to the compassionate practice of nursing, serving on the faculty of both Canonsburg General Hospital School of Nursing and the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, as a nursing arts instructor; St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH, as an obstetrical nursing instructor; and as a pediatric nursing instructor at Duquesne University School of Nursing in Pittsburgh
In addition to her commitment to promoting the compassionate practice of nursing, Eleanor also devoted much of her time to the community in a variety of areas. She was a member of St. Patrick's Christian Mothers Guild, Borough of Canonsburg Planning Commission; Canon-McMillan Long-Range Planning Commission; the Canonsburg General Hospital Women's Auxiliary; the Central Chartiers Valley Chamber of Commerce; and the Pittsburgh National Bank Advisory Board. She served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Canonsburg General Hospital (CGH) Foundation, and the Vice-President of the Greater Canonsburg Chamber of Commerce. In addition to serving the Canonsburg community at large, Eleanor had also committed herself to United Cerebral Palsy of South Western PA, including serving as Vice President of the Board of Directors. Eleanor's passionate advocacy in support of women in education and business included a long standing membership in the Canonsburg Business and Professional Women's Club (BPW) where she held many positions, including chairperson of its Scholarship Fund Committee, Vice President and President. She was honored by the BPW as their 1996 Woman of the Year. In addition to the honor bestowed by BPW, Eleanor was recognized with a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for her work on the Canonsburg General Hospital (CGH) Foundation, as well as a Resolution of Appreciation from the CGH Foundation itself. Eleanor was also recognized for her contributions to the community as the recipient of the 1994 Achievement Award from the Italian-American Heritage Society of Washington County. She was a member of the Jefferson College Historical Society, Allegheny University Health Sciences Association and the Duquesne University Alumni Association. In 2006-2007, Eleanor was included in Who's Who of American Women. Eleanor was a passionate political activist, maintaining a proud, lifelong commitment to the Democratic Party and to the defining principles of equal rights and social justice for all.
On June 20, 1953 she married Dr. Sam P. Tirimacco who died July 3, 1982.
Eleanor will be deeply missed by her family. Surviving are three daughters, Kris A.(John) Eckroate of South Fayette Twp., Kira A. Tirimacco of Los Angeles California and Karla A. (Jeffrey) Godish of Upper St. Clair, four grandchildren Claire and Grace Eckroate and Adrienne and Matthew Godish, two sisters, Joan (The Honorable Richard) DiSalle of Peters Twp. and Dolores Fiorentino of Hellertown PA., four brothers, Leonard (Agatha) Malinowski of State College, Conrad (Sally) Malinowski of Wexford, Daniel (Maura McDowell) Malinowski of Allison Park and Jack ( Deborah Frazer) Malinowski of Philadelphia and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are her daughter, Karen A. Tirimacco who died December 25, 1995, a sister Rosemary Mark, and a brother Rev. Francis X. Malinowski.

A blessing service will be held at Salandra Funeral Service at 9:30 am Friday September 25, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in St Patrick R.C. church followed by interment with her beloved husband and daughter. The Christian Mothers and Guild of St. Patrick will recite the Rosary at 3 pm and The Canonsburg B.P.W. will hold services at 7p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
