Edwin "Babe" Chesnic

Edwin "Babe" Chesnic 86 of Canonsburg, passed away Monday, November 05, 2012 after a courageous fight with esophageal cancer at the Donnell House, Washington, surrounded by his family.
He was born January 7, 1926 in Strabane, the son of the late John and Frances Kirn Chesnik.
Mr. Chesnic lived his entire life in Strabane /Canonsburg where he attended Trinity High School and a member of St. Patrick Church.
He served with the United States Army during World War II with the 417th Infantry Regiment receiving Army of Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Chesnic worked for 37 years with RCA Record Planet in Canonsburg and the RCA Radio Planet in Meadowlands.
In his younger years, he bowled in Canonsburg City League and Washington County Travel League, attending many ABC bowling tournaments throughout the country. He also enjoyed golfing.
Mr. Chesnic was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191and the Labor Temple both of Canonsburg, American Legion Post 902 of Houston, S.N.P.J. Lodge #138 and KSKJ Lodge # 153 both of Strabane and the Bears Club of Meadowlands.
On September 5, 1953 he married his beloved wife of 59 years, Mildred Skariot who survives.
Also surviving are son, Michael Chesnic of Canonsburg, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Deceased also is daughter, Patricia Susan Chesnic who passed away April 23, 1973, three sisters, Josephine Piquard, Mildred Barnes and Frances Florgan and five brothers, Jacob "Zack", Max, Gvedon "Vede" Sylvester Chesnic and Albert "Bert" Chesnik. Edwin was the last of his immediate family.
Friends are welcome on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120, where a Blessing Service will be held at on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 9:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Patrick Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Full Military Honors will be held by the combined honor guard VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
