Edward Sobolewski age 86 of Hawthorne Woods formerly of Canonsburg, died Saturday October 10, 2009 in Canonsburg General Hospital.
He was born September 24, 1923 in Canonsburg a son of John and Aniela Piatkowski Sobolewski. Mr. Sobolewski lived his entire life in Canonsburg were he was a member of St. Patrick Parish and was an usher at the former St. Genevieve church for many years. He served with the United States Army in the 11th Airborne Division during World War II and prior to his retirement in 1986 was employed as a crane operator at Universal Cyclops in Bridgeville.
He was a member of the V.F.W. post 2026 in Canonsburg, American Legion post 902 in Houston, Moon Run Volunteer Fire Department and the P.R.C.U. of Canonsburg.
Mr. Sobolewski is survived by two daughters, Joyce Duffy of Mars and Patricia Sobolewski of Pittsburgh, a sister Sophie (Adolph) Kern of Strabane, a grandson Patrick Duffy and Several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, Leon, John, Zigmund and Alfred Sobolewski and four sisters, Celine, Stella, Jean and Irene Sobolewski
At the request of the deceased there will be a private family visitation at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724-745-8120). A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon, Monday October 12, 2009 in St. Patrick Roman Catholic church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
