Dorothy G. Vercek 85 of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009.
She was born January 3, 1923 in Strabane, the daughter of John and Mary Riska Podboy, Sr.
Mrs. Vercek was a devoted homemaker, wife and mother.
She was a 1943 graduate of Trinity High School.
Mrs. Vercek spent most of her life in Strabane and Canonsburg area.
She was a member of S.N.P.J. Lodge #138 and was assistant director with Circle 19. Also was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Canonsburg General Hospital, volunteering in the Snack Shop.
Mrs. Vercek was a member of St. Patrick Church and volunteered in the St. Patrick's School library.
For over thirty years Dorothy and husband Joseph enjoyed spending their summers at Canadohta Lake, she also enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader.
On September 15, 1946, in St. Patrick Church she married Joseph R. Vercek, who passed away on October 31, 2006.
Surviving are daughter, Laura (Richard) Mitoch of Pittsburgh; son, Joseph R. (Judy) Vercek of Orlando, Fla.; brother, James Podboy of Canonsburg and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Frances Tomsic and Mary Chesnic, and six brothers, Joseph, John, Jr., Frank, August, Paul and Carl Podboy.
At the request of Dorothy there will be no visitation. The family invites all to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 23, 2009 at 10:00 am in St. Patrick Church. Please meet family at church by 9:50 am. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Canonsburg. Donations can be made to St. Patrick Church in memory of Dorothy.
