Dorothy Louise (Flowers) Matyuf age 80, of Canonsburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 in Washington County Health Center.
She was born on November 16, 1930, the daughter of the late Oswald and Elaine Ferry Flowers.
Mrs. Matyuf graduated from Canonsburg High School class of 1948, where she was WPIAL Relay Carnival Queen of 1948, and her husband was one of the Relay's all stars, where his jacket and their picture are on display at Canon McMillan High School today.
After her husband retirement they moved to Port Richey Florida to spend their winters and enjoyed their summers in Conneaut, Pa. at Camp Runamuck until their return back to Canonsburg due to her husband illness.
Mrs. Matyuf was a devote home maker and she and her husband shared the passion of playing golf together, where she is known for getting a Hole- in- One at Hartstown Golf Course, in Hartstown, Pa. in August of 1991.She also had a great talent as a seamstress, enjoyed making clothes, crafts, crocheting afghans, quilting for her family and playing cards.
On August 29, 1949 for over 52 years she was married to her high school sweet heart, John Paul Matyuf, who passed away on May 5, 2003.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandy (John) Sartori of Canonsburg; Amy (John) Mele of Washington; Karen (Terry) Fowler of Canonsburg; seven grandchildren, Jennifer and John Sartori, Sadie Walton, Tabitha Blumen, John and Ryan Mele, Tara Fowler, five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Brittany and Tyler Blumen , Maddie and Brooke Walton, sister Margaret Schultz.
Deceased also are two sisters, Betty Yenchik and Joan Galbraith.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM the time of Service, at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, family suggest donations be made to Alzheimer's Association 100 West Station Square Drive The Landmarks Building, Suite 500 Pittsburgh, Pa. 15219.
