Dorothy Maffio age 84 of Canonsburg died at 7:21 am Thursday February 11, 2010 in Country Meadows, South Fayette Twp.
She was born April 15, 1925 in Warren Ohio a daughter of the late Albert and Anna Sam Dager. Mrs. Maffio lived most of her life in Canonsburg where she was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church. She was in retail sales, working for over 35 years at the former Rosner's dress shop. Dorothy loved to make pitzells and meatballs and was a true people person.
On July 24, 1948 she married Joseph Maffio who died April 17, 1982. She is survived by her daughter April (Tad) Paterra of Canonsburg a grandson Tad Paterra serving in the United States Army,three sisters, Leila McClain of Canonsburg, Ruth Gillespie of Cecil and Lamese Patrick of Strabane several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister June Marie DeConcillis.
Friends are welcome from 2-8pm Friday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg (724-745-8120) where a blessing service will be held at 9:30 am Saturday February 13, 2010. A Liturgy will follow at 10 am in St John the Baptist Orthodox church with the Very Reverend Joseph Oleynik, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Spring Cemetery. Parastas services will be held at 7pm Friday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be made to St John the Baptist Orthodox Church Growth and Development Fund.
