Doreen M. Baker age 46 of Canonsburg passed away at 2am Wednesday October 19, 2011 in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh with her loving family by her side, following a courageous 4 year battle with breast cancer.
She was born June 4, 1965 in Akron, Ohio a daughter of Brenda Hartney (Jack) Shirey of Collier Twp. and Michael (Lois) Dague of Canton, Ohio. She lived in Peters Twp, for five years and the past 15 years in Canonsburg where she was a homemaker and Methodist by faith.
Mrs. Baker was a graduate of Bethel Park High School and the University of West Virginia. She was a member and had served on the Board of the Little Mac Football Association where she had been a cheerleading coach for 8 years. She ran the Sports Booth at the Canon McMillan Football Stadium and served on the Board of Canonsburg Knights Baseball Team. Doreen had been a member of the Hill-Henderson PTA, the White Eagles and AGA clubs of Canonsburg. She ran in the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure 5K.
Doreen enjoyed all sports, including golf, tennis, shooting pool, horseshoes and also listening to music. She loved all animals, particularly dogs and was a great party planner and hostess and an avid Steelers fan. Above all she dedicated her life to being an incredible wife and loving mother.
On May 19, 1988 she married Matthew C. Baker, who survives. Also surviving in addition to her husband and parents are her three beloved children; Justin Matthew Baker, Carly May Baker and Lucinda May Baker, her sister, Cynthia (Nathan) Andrew of Asheboro North Carolina, her brother Michael Dague of Baldwin, a grandmother Grace Shirey, her mother and father in law Sharon and Gerold Baker of Bethel Park, a brother in law, Jeff Baker of Bethel Park and two sisters in law Debby (Ron) Schwarzel of Library and Michelle (Kerry) Green of Cecil and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome from 6-8pm Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Saturday October 22, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church of Canonsburg 161 West Pike Street Canonsburg with Pastor Jeff Conn officiating. Please meet at church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. The family suggest memorials be made to the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Koman Foundation.
