Donald Heckathorne age 86 of Murrysville formerly of Strabane died Wednesday February 17, 2010 following a year long Illness.
He was born April 13, 1923 in New Castle a son of the late Harold and Esther Norris Heckathorne. Mr. Heckathorne lived in Murrysville since 1992. He served with the United States Army in Italy during World War II and prior to his retirement was employed at the former McGraw Edison and Cooper Power Systems in Canonsburg.
In January of 1948 he married Matilda Marie Steiner who died December 31, 2002.
Mr. Heckathorne is survived by two sons Donald F. (Gretchen Mundorff) Heckathorne of Connellsville and Craig W. (Jennifer) Heckathorne of Evanston Illinois, four grandchildren, Amy Byars, Sean, Lauren and Kira Heckathorne, 2 great grand children Adeline Byars and Urijah Heckathorne and several nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family. Deceased in addition to his wife is a son Charles F. Heckathorne, a daughter Tina Marie Heckathorne a sister Thelma Herceg and three brothers Bernard, Harold and Floyd Heckathorne.
Friends are welcome from 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday February 19, 2010 in Salandra Funeral Service. Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where services will be held at noon Saturday February 20, 2010 with the Reverend Dr. Byron Tate Fulton , pastor of Albright United Methodist Church of South Connellsville , officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens McMurray, with full military rites being accorded by the VFW post 191 of Canonsburg and the American Legion post 902 of Houston combined honor guard
