David M. Bazzoli, Sr. age 63, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 10, 2009 in the Washington Hospital.
He was born August 25, 1946 in Canonsburg, the son of Mary A. Karahuta Bazzoli of Washington and the late Arigo D. Bazzoli.
Mr. Bazzoli served with the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War on the USS Springfield CLG-7 and received the National Defense Service Medal.
He retired from UPS as a driver/deliverer.
Mr. Bazzoli lived entire life in Canonsburg where he was a member of St. Patrick Church belonging to their Catholic Men's Club as an usher and to the Knights of Columbus 2nd Degree.
He belonged to the Special Olympics where he was a coach for skiing, roller skating and bowling and helped with other activities. For the Washington County order he was Activities Management Team Coordinator for family out reach. Also was a Scout Leader for boy scouts troop #1305.
Mr. Bazzoli belonged to Italian Men's Club, American Legion Post 902 of Houston and S.N.P.J. Lodge #138 of Strabane.
He was an avid hunter and fishermen; he enjoyed wine making and scooter riding with his wife.
Mr. Bazzoli was a devoted husband, father and pap pap.
On November 21, 1970 he married Eileen Matascik, who survives.
Also surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two sons, David M. Bazzoli, Jr. and Gregory Bazzoli both of Canonsburg; daughter, Kristen M. (Rob) Spellman of Coraopolis; two grandchildren, James and Alyssa Spellman; one sister, Karen (Frank) Gasper of Washington and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome on Thursday, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Salandra Funeral Service, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where a Blessing Service will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 14, 2009 followed at 9:30 am by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Church. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. Catholic Men's Club and the Knights of Columbus will have combined service on Friday at 7:00 PM in the funeral home. Full Military rites will be accorded by the combine honor guard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
