Darlene E. Whitfield age 76 of Muse passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 31, 2023, in Paramount Senior Living of Peters Twp. She was born May 25, 1946, in Washington, a daughter of the late John Edward and Dorothy Cushman Kemis. Darlene lived most of her life in Muse where she was a dedicated member of Holy Rosary Church of St. Oscar Romero Parish, formerly serving as president of the Christian Mothers and a member of the Alter Society . She was a graduate of Canon-McMillan high School and had been employed as an aide, and in the Pharmacy Department at Western Center, also a bartender at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Canonsburg. A longtime member of the ladies Auxiliary of the Muse Independent Club, she helped with many fish fries and spaghetti dinners. Darlene enjoyed bowling in her youth but most of all she loved being with her beloved grandchildren. On October 18, 1987, she married Wesley Whitfield who passed away April 27, 2022. Left behind to cherish her memory are her two devoted sons John McDermitt of Bridgeville and Arthur McDermitt and his wife Kim of Burgettstown, seven grandchildren, Arthur Joseph , Austin John (Tricia), Allison Lori, John James and Nathan John McDermitt, Nicholas and Matthew Smutney, her brother John (Judi) Kemis of Canonsburg and Lorraine (Matt) Zombeck of McDonald and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to her husband and parents is her sister Linda Hannen, and her granddaughter Karlee Wilhelm McDermitt who passed away January 22, 2023.
