Daniel W. "Itch" Higgins age 64 of Washington passed away peacefully at 9:10 PM Sunday July 20, 2014 in Washington Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born November 28, 1949 in Canonsburg a son of the late Samuel and Olive V. Armani Higgins. Mr. Higgins lived most of his life in the Arden area and was Catholic. Prior to his retirement he had been employed as a sheet metal worker at C&J Metals in Hickory and was also employed at Lutz Auto Body. Itch was a true character and jack of all trades who enjoyed life while helping anyone at anytime. He was proud of his sons and beloved grandchildren. An avid Pirates fan and golfer, he enjoyed good times with his many friends. He liked to collect Railroad lanterns and pocket knives and was a life member of the Palanka Club and a member of the VFW post 191 of Canonsburg.
On August 27, 1971 he married Jean M. Matko who survives. Also surviving are his two sons; Daniel (Karen) Higgins of Bethel Park and Ryan "Chach" Higgins of Houston, two grandchildren Ethan and Emily Higgins, two sisters Barbara Ann Kessler and Debra (Joe) Obosky both of Richeyville, his twin brother; Samuel Higgins of Canonsburg and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents is a brother James Higgins.
Friends are welcome from 6-8pm Tuesday and from 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday in Salandra Funeral Service, Inc. Joseph P. Salandra owner/supervisor 304 West Pike Street Canonsburg 724-745-8120 where a Catholic blessing service will be held at 10 am Thursday July 24, 2014 with Reverend George Chortos of Our Lady of the Miraculous Church in Meadowlands officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery Canonsburg. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
